President Obama has once again decided the Constitution is merely an impediment to his fiat (and I blame him for the bankruptcy proceedings of Chrysler that brought Fiat back to America along with those horrible Jennifer Lopez commercials) regime and Congress isn't doing a damned thing about it. I have written before about the rampant extra-constitutional activities of this administration and in all fairness, it is not the first, just the most hypocritical and least apologetic. Just a brief recap of a few highlights (I don't think I can write a post long enough to cover them all):
President Obama proposes a debt commission : Voted down by a supermajority Democratic Senate The President simply creates it out of thin air. He then ignores their recommendations, essentially having wasted the millions of dollars appropriated to them.
DREAM Act : Voted down by Congress despite both Houses being under Democratic control. The President instructs his administration to not enforce provisions of immigration law in such a way as to essentially enact its provisions.
Cap & Trade : Couldn't get through a Democratic Congress. The EPA is essentially forcing a cap and trade system through fines and increased regulatory control.
Card Check : Couldn't get through a Democratic Congress. The NLRB has enacted regulations similar to card check in order to fast track unionization of workforces without prior procedures or employers being able to present their case to workers.
This time, President Obama isn't even trying to circumvent the Constitution sub rosa. When the Senate couldn't pass President Obama's laughable "jobs" bill (liberal English : Jobs bill, conservative English : stimulus package, vernacular : spending a load of money they don't have), President Obama just instructed his administration to start enacting the provisions of the bill that they can and ignore Congress.
Congress, for its part, is spending its time sitting on its hands and watching quietly as its relevance wanes. It's almost like watching a man sleep through his own execution.
