Is God Violating U.S. Airspace?

Apparently concerned that someone might be converted to Christianity by the overbearing viewpoint of a large banner hauled by a plane, the Pentagon has denied a traditional flyover of the "God and Country" rally.
The ACLU has our country so scared of lawsuits that we are denying harmless displays of faith. I'm surprised we haven't seen a suit against a congresswoman who has a cross necklace or maybe an injunction preventing Nancy Pelosi from visiting the Pope earlier this year. OK, maybe the ACLU suing Pelosi is a bit out there. When will we stop this idiotic "separation of church and state" mantra and realize that the First Amendment doesn't even say that. It prohibits the establishment of religion, i.e., a state church, like the Anglican church was at the time in Britain. Further, the First Amendment directly addresses laws enacted by Congress, not Pentagon airspace. Lastly, the First Amendment prohibits Congress from enacting any law which would prohibit the free exercise of religion, which would seem to fit the fly over, though here there is no Congressional action.
Don't believe me? Here is the relevant text of the First Amendment:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof...
One would think that this was a pretty straightforward expression of the will of the founding fathers and yet anytime some ACLU intern drives around town to try and get offended by some display in a public place, we get a lawsuit costing thousands of dollars, at least, against the state, local or federal government.
