Ah, the wistful days of summer when it becomes so swelteringly hot in southern Louisiana that it is difficult to imagine breathing, much less thinking and then typing. Once again I have strayed from my posting habits and once again, I must return, as always, so that I can pour out my thoughts into what is essentially a diary with three to four regular readers who sneak into my room and pull it from my drawer on occasion to see what I have to say. In any case, I highly recommend this selection from F.A. Hayek, "Why I Am Not a Conservative". Not only does the piece give great insight to the difference between American and European notions of conservatism and liberalism, I think by implication it demonstrates how liberalism in America became co-opted by ideas of social democracy and torn away from its roots in individual liberty.
In any case, I'm back for now, expect more posts and more frequently.
