Why I'm Rooting for the "Principled" Left Wing on Health Care

At one point, I was hopeful that some of the supposedly "conservative" Democrats might actually vote against the health care bill. I keep forgetting that a conservative Democrat is roughly the same as a unicorn. Senator Joseph Lieberman (I., Conn.) has apparently caved in response to the supposed elimination of any public option or expansion of the age requirements for Medicare. The defection of Lieberman (who is John McCain without his current streak of conservatism which came out of nowhere) to supporting the bill means that, assuming all Democrats vote in favor, they have the necessary 60 votes. Senator Susan Collins (RINO, Maine) has come out against the bill, so there's hope that the Republicans can stand together to prevent its passage, but Collins is probably just holding out for her own bribe similar to the Louisiana Purchase of Senator Mary Landrieu (D. La.).
Since I expect Susan Collins and her RINO mate from Maine, Senator Olympia Snowe, to eventually vote for the bill, I am now relying upon those principled morons, the far left, to vote down the bill, and I may have reason to hope. In fact, President Obama's replacement in the Senate, Roland Burris, has come out against any version of the bill that doesn't contain a public option. I expect that Burris will eventually cave as well, crushing my dreams. There may be reason to hold out hope as Howard Dean, former head of the Democratic National Committee and former psychotic candidate for President, has called for the Senate Bill to be killed.
Burris did, however, note something that Republicans would do well to remember in the future: "As Mohandas Gandhi once famously said 'all compromise is based on give and take, but there can be no give and take on fundamentals. Any compromise on mere fundamentals is a surrender."
