A Florida woman has launched a website, http://www.mycongressmanisnuts.com/, in an effort to speak out against Congressman Alan Grayson (D. Fla.). Grayson has requested the attorney general, Eric Holder (who refuses to prosecute liberal criminals), to pursue jail time for the woman who launched the website. Even in a civil matter, Mr. Grayson would do well to remember that truth is an absolute defense. Grayson has recently become well known for his idiotic outbursts such as saying the Republican health plan was to die quickly, told MSNBC's Chris Matthews that former Vice President Dick Cheney should "shut the fuck up" (perhaps a precursor showing his respect for free speech), referred to a female lobbyist as a "K Street Whore" (though I amazingly agree with his position on auditing the Fed), and read the names of those who have died of that supposedly terminal condition called lack of health insurance. On a strictly personal note and not addressing his actual stance on anything, he eerily looks like the kind of guy who would call everyone George and can't be trusted petting small animals (yes, there is irony that I say he should shut up, but that's mostly for his own good and he's using speech for simply inflammatory (see "Fighting Words Doctrine") purposes).
As I said, truth is an absolute defense. Considering the history of this administration, though, I wouldn't be too surprised to see Holder move on this. I'll be donating to her legal defense fund if he does.
