To be fair, there's nothing new about a Democrat trying to stop a black man from voting. They were the authors of the Jim Crow laws after all. This instance is pretty outrageous as well. Representative Louise Slaughter (D. NY) noted that she and others are looking into a "retroactive recusal" to take away Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas' votes. Ms. Slaughter apparently misread "to protect and defend the Constitution" as "to subvert and upend".
