One of These Kids Isn't Doing His Own Thing, One of These Kids is Just Like the Others

"All of our efforts to strengthen the economy will fail...let me say this again...I feel so strongly about this, all of our efforts to strengthen the economy will fail unless we also take this year, not next year, not five years from now, but this year, bold steps to reform our health care system." President Bill Clinton, State of the Union address, 1993.

Note the rhetoric hasn't changed. The country didn't collapse back then, it won't collapse now. The ultimate effect of universal health care won't be the destruction of the country either, though it is by no means a good idea. What it will destroy is conservatism. Once every single person in the country becomes dependent upon a government program or handout, there will no longer be room in this country for conservatives who look for inspiration to our Constitution. How could a conservative exist and successfully run for office on a platform that includes taking away health care benefits? Have you heard the outcry lately from people on welfare about how shitty welfare is? How about all those people who complain about how the government gives them public housing?

On the contrary, when Louisiana sought to tear down decrepit public housing with no one living in it after Hurricane Katrina, the outcry was profound. Note how similar these liberal protests appear compared to how the conservatives have been portrayed lately. (my favorite part is the fat hippy lady at the 6 minute mark or so talking about how the Bush administration was behind it and more, God bless the little moron) Keep in mind, these roach infested, flooded out, crime-ridden areas were quite likely the closest thing to Somalia available in the U.S. I remember one lady on T.V. crying out about how her family had lived there for three generations. Seriously. The woman was claiming generational pride in her family living in public housing for over 50 years. People become dependent upon government when government gives them something. They forget how to do anything for themselves.

Think a conservative could win based on his belief that government should not be providing housing in that district? With health care, everyone would be on the dole, and no conservative could ever win, at least without lying about his or her principles. That, in the end, is what I believe the move towards universal coverage and single payer system is truly about.

And, as Greg Gutfeld says, if you don't agree with me, then you are worse than Hitler.
