Representative Charles Rangel (D. NY), who is chairman of the powerful House Ways and Means Committee that writes tax law, who has been under scrutiny for some time as an apparent tax cheat, has been defended by Democrats who apparently feel perfectly comfortable with him as the chairman. In a near party-line vote Democrats defeated an attempt to remove Rangel from his position. This was not an attempt to impeach the man, remove him from office or jail him. This was a move designed to stop a man who thinks he's above the tax code from writing it. In similar news, House Democrats are expected to appoint Roman Polanski as head of a new agency dealing with babysitting teenage girls.
