President Barack Obama (Socialist, Ill.) in his weekly radio address says that the stimulus package is working as intended. This despite his claims that unemployment would not rise above 8% if it was passed. This is also despite Vice President Joe Biden's claims that the administration underestimated the economic situation, which is an excuse for why the stimulus is not working as intended. Which kind of begs the question, with all those meetings of economic advisors, how could they have missed it?
But maybe it is working as intended. If the stimulus package was meant to be a pork laden bill for Democrats and their constituencies, it might be working just fine. Representative John Murtha (D. Penn.) seems to be doing pretty well off of it. His little airport project may be the worst example of the waste in the stimulus, but it is far from the only one. If the goal is to bankrupt the U.S.A. in order to remake it, the stimulus is working like a charm. I mean it's not like there was any historical precedent that showed this wouldn't work ("We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent and it does not work." Henry J. Morgenthau, Jr., Treasury Secretary to President Franklin Delano Rosevelt, May 9, 1939.) But then, what do you expect from a supposedly brilliant man who can't make a speech without a teleprompter (Rush Limbaugh, college dropout, gave an extemporaneous speech at CPAC in excess of 1 and a half hours) and can't get through a paragraph without saying "uh" 14 times? There was a girl in my law school class we used to make fun of for that.
